It’s officially summer. June has arrived, and now is the time to transition yourselves from a semi-sunny wardrobe to a full-blown heatwave (wishful thinking?) one. With the inclement weather we’ve been having lately starting to subside, you can finally start to leave jackets, umbrellas and any extra layers at home. The forecast is sunny times ahead.
All those warm-weather Instagram shots that had you craving days of endless sunshine are now a reality. But as with any season, the simplest way to do everyday chic is to have a trusty roster of staples that can be mixed and matched accordingly. The only decision to make is figuring out what your summer signature will be this year.
From the basic top every wardrobe should have to the new-season skirt that’s taking over my social media feed, I’ve assembled a total of eight outfits that perfectly fit the “what to wear in June” bill, each of which will still feel stylish next June and the June after that. See them below, and should you need any pieces to re-create these foolproof looks, I’ve shopped out lookalikes for you along the way. Enjoy.
1. Waistcoat + White Cotton Skirt + Strappy Sandals
Style Notes: One of my favourite things about this time of year is being able to leave the house sans coat or jacket. Go sleeveless with a trending waistcoat, dressing it down with a cotton midi skirt and flat leather sandals.
Shop the look:
MANGO
Striped Linen Waistcoat
£36
A summer no-brainer.
NOBODYS CHILD
White Broderie Anglaise Maxi Skirt
£79
White midi skirts are proving popular in fashion circles right now.
SÉZANE
Adeline Low Sandals
£125
Would you believe these are currently in stock?
2. Striped Shirt + Capri Pants + Mules
Style Notes: Okay, I know I said these looks were anti-trend, and I stand by that. I feel like this formula will still feel pretty classic in a few years’ time, but there’s no denying that ultra-cropped, capri-style trousers are having a moment. Wear with mules for a sophisticated take.
Shop the look:
WITH NOTHING UNDERNEATH
The Classic: Poplin, Royal Blue Stripe
£95
Size up for a slouchier fit.
MAEVE
Maeve Structured Bombshell Capri Pants
£90
Capri pants are having a revival this season.
CARVEN
Leather Mules
£640
Minimal, yet so impactful.
3. Colour-Pop Tee + Loose Jeans
Style Notes: It’s finally T-shirt weather. Hallelujah! My favourite way to wear this staple is simple—just add blue jeans and black sandals to create an easy-going summer look.
Shop the look:
HUSH
Linzy Wool Blend T-Shirt
£69
This has wool in it, so it’ll be warm even on cooler summer days.
OUR LEGACY
Trade Mid-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans
£350
I love this wash.
K JACQUES ST TROPEZ
Abako Leather Sandals
£295
A timeless sandal.
4. Midi Dress + Tonal Knit
Style Notes: Is there any summer piece that’s more reliable than a lightweight midi dress? If you ask me, this is the easiest thing you can wear in June, but it might be worth carrying a matching jumper around in case the temperature drops.
Shop the look:
REFORMATION
Dana Cashmere Crew Sweater
£168
This will be handy whatever the season.
REFORMATION
Sariah Dress
£298
Reformation is the go-to brand for easy summer dresses.
LITTLE LIFFNER
Slanted Croc Embossed Leather Bag – Little Liffner – Women | Luisaviaroma
£480
Nothing can elevate an outfit like a statement bag.
5. Tank Top + Denim Shorts + Fisherman Sandals
Style Notes: Here, Francesca has assembled a fail-safe summer outfit with three items we pull out every year: a basic tank, denim shorts and a chunky fisherman sandal. If it ain’t broke…
Shop the look:
MASSIMO DUTTI
Sleeveless Contrast T-Shirt
£30
This is a touch more interesting than your average tank top thanks to the contrasting neckline.
SLVRLAKE
Grace Frayed Denim Shorts
£285
These were an easy add-to-basket find.
M&S COLLECTION
Wide Fit Leather Strappy Sandals
£50
I’m into this designer-looking pair.
